Five times more expensive than iPhone: the price of Saga's "crypto phone" has skyrocketed
The Saga smartphone from cryptocurrency company Solana has skyrocketed in price. On the secondary market, the devices are sold for $2-5 thousand, which is twice or even five times higher than the price of the iPhone 15.
This is reported by The Block, citing data on listings on the eBay online auction. The reason for the hype around the mobile device, which has been repeatedly criticized by technical observers, is the demand for the rising Bonk token (BONK), which is hosted on the Solana blockchain.

The value of BONK has been growing rapidly in recent months. Since October, the token's price has soared by more than 10,000%. As a result, on December 15, this cryptocurrency peaked at $0.00002859 per 1 BONK, and in terms of market capitalization, the token entered the top 50 largest crypto assets.
Solana has already limited the sale of devices to only one smartphone per person (although the official website states that they are no longer available). Each Saga already has a crypto wallet with 30 million BONK. BONK is equivalent to about $610 as of December 18. The price of the smartphone from the manufacturer is $599.
Solana's Saga went on sale in April 2023. Initially, the devices were sold for $1000, but later their price was reduced. This is a smartphone based on the Android operating system with a 6.67-inch OLED display, 12 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of internal storage.
But the main feature of Saga is the Solana Mobile Stack. This is a set of settings that integrate cryptographic functions into the phone's hardware and software. This allows users to interact with decentralized applications, trade tokens, create NFTs, and play web3 games.
