A hidden gem: "European Thailand" offers the perfect fall vacation
Albania is a true hidden gem of Europe, resembling a tropical paradise with warm, clear waters and vibrant jungle-like landscapes. The country is located in the west of the Balkan Peninsula, on the coast of the Ionian and Adriatic Seas.
The landscape of Albania is picturesque and diverse. There are snow-capped mountains in the North Albanian Alps and hot sunny coasts. While millions of tourists flock to Thailand every year to visit its iconic tropical islands, Albania offers similar landscapes and experiences, but much closer and more accessible. Experts note that the country is ideal for an autumn vacation.
In autumn, the Albanian coasts enjoy a comfortable temperature of around 25°C in October, with plenty of sunshine, making it ideal for beach lovers during the velvet season.
There are more than 1400 islands off the coast of Albania, dotted with limestone cliffs, vibrant coral reefs and stunning beaches.
The Shala River, accessible only by boat, flows through the picturesque Albanian Alps. With its spectacularly clear waters and emerald mountains, this place could easily be mistaken for one of Thailand's remote islands.
Adventure seekers will have a special treat, as the Shala River area offers activities such as zip lining, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, and more.
This area is also ideal for those who want to take a break from the hustle and bustle, as the tranquil atmosphere, warm climate and lack of crowds of tourists will give a sense of comfort and unity with nature.
The remote, laid-back atmosphere of the river offers a relaxing vacation without the high costs.
To get to the Shala River, you need to take a boat trip from Lake Comana harbor, but this effort will be rewarded with stunning natural landscapes and an unforgettable vacation.
This area remains relatively untouched, far from the crowded beaches of more famous places, making it a real hidden treasure.
Unfortunately, Albania has an underdeveloped tourism industry. Due to the wars and the poor quality of the recreational infrastructure, the country still does not have crowds of tourists, unlike, for example, neighboring Montenegro. Albania has preserved medieval architecture, Venetian and Turkish fortresses, Ottoman mosques, historical centers of the cities of Durres, Vlora, Shkodër, and the remains of the ancient city of Butrint.
