Hybrid sedan rankings

You can often meet hybrid sedans on the road, it's not a novelty for a long time. But one of the cars that started the hybridization process can be considered the Toyota Prius.

Many hybrid cars are SUVs because they're in vogue right now, but that doesn't mean there isn't a wide range of hybrid sedans. TopSpeed has put together a ranking of luxury cars.

Toyota Corolla Hybrid

This car has a modern design and a powerful engine. Each sedan variant, starting with the base version, has 8 airbags evenly placed around the cabin as required for each passenger. This particular car has become a model in terms of mode-shifting in many years that Toyota has been developing and refining its hybrids.

The presence of an electric motor under the hood of the hybrid allows it to be more dynamic compared to other classic models. The hybrid system does not force the engine to burst to gain more speed. It allows you to distribute the capabilities of the gasoline-powered engine intelligently.

Hyundai Elantra Hybrid

The current Hyundai Elantra was released in 2020 for the 2021 model year. The sedan has many benefits: fuel economy, comfortable handling, smooth ride, a comfortable interior and plenty of standard technology and driver assistance features. Its engine provides enough power for most road situations. This Hyundai has one of the lowest fuel consumption ratings in the hybrid class.

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Like the Elantra Hybrid, the Sonata Hybrid is a sportier hybrid sedan with more standard features and a modern design. Compared to the Elantra, the Sonata has more interior space, a larger trunk and is much more comfortable to drive. An equally important factor is fuel economy, which is actually slightly better than the Elantra.

Toyota Camry Hybrid

The Camry began competing in the midsize segment with a narrow bode after 16 years of rocking a compact in 1991, but it wasn't until 2017 that it took on a sportier look. The Toyota Camry available today is virtually unchanged from the model released in 2017.

It will provide you with slightly better fuel economy. If you like performance, the Camry Hybrid has a total system output of 208 horsepower, 118 of which is produced by the electric motor.

Honda Accord Hybrid

All hybrid versions of the Accord are powered by a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. The engine itself has 146 horsepower, while the electric motors produce slightly more, 181 horsepower. The total output of the system is 204 horsepower.

Toyota Crown Hybrid

Being new to Toyota's lineup, the starting price for the Crown is almost $40,000, but it can go as high as $50,000 if you opt for the top-of-the-line model. The Crown XLE and Limited are powered by a 2.5-liter engine with 184 horsepower.

If you care more about performance and don't mind sacrificing economy for extra power, the Platinum will give you a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with 264 horsepower. Total system output for this model is 340 horsepower.

Lexus ES Hybrid

The Lexus ES Hybrid is one of the most luxurious hybrid sedans available. No matter which hybrid package you choose, you'll get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine coupled with a powerful electric motor. The total output of the system is 215 horsepower.

Volvo S90 Recharge

The Volvo S90 is the most expensive midsize sedan on this list. The S90 certainly looks the part with typical Swedish styling and luxury even though it's the same model that went on sale for the 2017 model year with some minor changes.

It's the only car on this list that's called an "executive sedan," meaning it's arguably the most luxurious of the bunch. You'll have to pay at least $60,000 to purchase the new S90. The car is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with an electric motor mounted in the rear. This setup gives a total output of 455 horsepower.
