Cucumbers are one of the most popular vegetables in Ukraine, grown in almost every garden. Their fresh flavor and crispy texture complement many dishes, so landowners want to sow the plants and get a harvest as soon as possible.

But cucumbers are a rather heat-loving crop, so growing them in early spring can be difficult. However, with the help of some tricks and tips from the Good News publication, you can get an early cucumber harvest as early as May.

Usually, cucumbers are only just beginning to be sown in May, but gardeners who wanted to enjoy their harvest as soon as possible found a way to grow the crop even in the cool spring.

Choosing a variety

The first step to getting an early cucumber harvest is to choose the right variety. Experienced gardeners advise choosing hybrids that are self-pollinating. For example: "F1 Furor," "Shosha F1," or varieties such as "Garland," "Goblin," and "Cucoo."

Sowing

For sowing early cucumbers, you should use well-drained soil or coconut substrate. The seeds should be buried about 0.5 centimeters into the ground.

Keep containers or pots with the plant at room temperature. If you follow the correct germination conditions, then in 4-5 weeks you will have strong seedlings ready for transplanting into the open ground.

Preparing seedlings

Before transplanting cucumbers, they should be hardened. To do this, you need to put the plants outside for a short time on a sunny day so that they slowly get used to the street conditions.

Preparing the bed

Two weeks before you plant the seedlings outdoors, you need to fertilize the bed with organic fertilizer. Early cucumbers need to be in a fertile environment to grow strong and healthy.
