What has changed in Finland since joining NATO: poll results

Finland became a member of the North Atlantic Alliance on April 4, 2023, and it has affected the lives of its citizens. Three months after this historic decision, most Finns say they now feel more secure.

This is the result of a survey. It was conducted by the Finnish TV and radio company Yle.

Thus, more than half of Finnish residents said that the country's accession to NATO has contributed to their sense of security.

"About 16% of the respondents say that their feeling of security has increased considerably after joining the Alliance. Another 39% of those surveyed responded "somewhat," the report says.

Also noted: only 3 percent of respondents said their sense of security had diminished.

According to Iro Särkkä of the Foreign Policy Institute, the results of the Yle poll show that Finns are quite satisfied with the decision to join the military-political alliance of North American and European states.

"This is a clear signal that people consider NATO membership a good choice for Finland," she stressed.

We remind that Finland officially became a member of the North Atlantic Alliance on April 4. A solemn ceremony was held at NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, during which the country's flag was hoisted among the flags of other states. Since then there are already 31 countries in the Alliance.
