Mike Johnson allegedly ready to discuss aid to Ukraine

Republican Mike Johnson, who became speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives on October 25, allegedly said he was ready to discuss providing financial assistance to Ukraine to fight the Russian invasion. He had previously opposed the allocation of money to Kyiv.

This was reported by Bloomberg. The journalists noted that during his election as Speaker of the House of Representatives, Johnson said he was open to negotiations on the request of US President Joe Biden.

The US president's request to Congress concerns assistance to both Ukraine and Israel.

"Although Johnson had previously been skeptical about helping Ukraine, he said he was open to negotiating Biden's request for more funding to help with the country's counteroffensive against Russia," the journalists say.

It should be reminded that Mike Johnson's candidacy was supported by all the Republicans present during the voting on October 25. As a result, he received 220 votes. Representatives of the Democratic Party unanimously voted for Hakeem Jeffries, who received 209 votes.

Republican Johnson is a supporter of former US President Donald Trump. Last May, he voted against a $40 billion package for Ukraine.

On October 20, Biden requested $106 billion from Congress to help Ukraine and Israel. Of this amount, $61.3 billion should be used to help the Ukrainian Defense Forces fight Russia's invasion.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Biden administration said that Israel and Ukraine equally need help from Washington. Ukraine - to protect itself from the invasion of the aggressor country Russia, Israel - to fight Hamas terrorists.
