The head of the Estonian government, Kaja Kallas, has claimed that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin tried to prevent her from becoming NATO Secretary General. One of the parts of this plan was to put her on the wanted list by Russian special services.

Callas said this in an interview with Svenska Dagbladet. The prime minister emphasized that in this way Russia wanted to show that Estonia is a "fake country" in which Russian laws are in force and that Kallas herself is an "anti-Russian provocateur."

"Seriously, Putin wanted to show with the wanted notice that we are not a real country. Russian laws apply here too. But they are invalid," the Prime Minister said.

According to her, in addition, such a step by the Russian Federation was a signal to Kallas' European colleagues.

"When we talk about various positions at the European level or in NATO, the main argument against me is that I am an anti-Russian provocateur. That's why they put me on this list, to make it clear that I am provoking them," the head of the Estonian government said.

As a reminder, in February 2024, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the aggressor state of Russia put several dozen European officials on the wanted list, including Kallas, Estonian Secretary of State Taimar Peterkop, Lithuanian Minister of Culture Simonas Kairis, and two-thirds of the previous Latvian Saeima.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Kallas and Peterkop were wanted for "destroying monuments to Soviet soldiers."
