"This is unacceptable": Poland and several other countries to boycott OSCE meeting over Lavrov's participation
Polish Foreign Minister Szymon Szynkowski wiel Sienk said he would not participate in a meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to be held in the capital of North Macedonia, Skopje. The reason for Warsaw's boycott of this event is the participation of a representative of the Russian occupiers, Sergey Lavrov.
As the Polish minister said at a Sejm session on Wednesday, November 29, the participation of the foreign minister of the aggressor country on the same rights as the foreign ministers of other states is unacceptable to Warsaw. His words were quoted by the Ukrinform news agency.
He added that a representative of a country that commits war crimes and bears full responsibility for them cannot participate on an equal footing with others in an event aimed at promoting peace and security in Europe.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who also said earlier that the Ukrainian delegation would not participate in the meeting, said that Ukraine's position was already shared by more than four countries.
"There are more than four countries that disagree with Lavrov's participation, but each country decides for itself how to express this disagreement," Kuleba said.
The day before, the foreign ministers of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia issued a statement saying that they refused to participate in the 30th meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council because of Lavrov's presence there. The ministers emphasized that the Russian foreign minister's seat should be under a special tribunal.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, after blocking Estonia's 2024 OSCE chairmanship, Russia prevented an alternative vote in which Malta was to be elected as the chair.
