Fled to the Czech Republic: police detain a suspect in the murder of a 9-year-old Ukrainian girl in Germany
Czech police have arrested a 36-year-old Moldovan citizen suspected of involvement in the murder of Valeria, a 9-year-old girl from Ukraine, who was killed in Döbeln, Germany. The documents are currently being prepared to transfer the suspect "to Germany for criminal proceedings for manslaughter as soon as possible."
This was reported by the German police. Currently, the Chemnitz prosecutor's office has applied for a national and European arrest warrant for the suspect. He is in custody in the Czech Republic.
"According to the investigation, Czech police arrested a 36-year-old man in a Prague restaurant on the morning of June 14, around 10:15 a.m. The Moldovan citizen is suspected of the violent death of a nine-year-old girl, who has been searched for since the evening of June 3, 2024," law enforcement officials said.
The police added that along with the arrest warrant, they had sent a request for the suspect's extradition to the Czech authorities.
Saxony's Interior Minister Armin Schuster said he hoped that "with the arrest of the suspect, this heinous crime could be solved quickly."
The suspect was found thanks to a silver Peugeot 206 CC (pictured above). It is known that he left Germany in this car. The Moldovan was arrested after Czech law enforcement officers spotted the wanted car.
As previously reported, initially, German police had two suspects in the case of the child's murder. One of them was a Ukrainian, the other a Moldovan. Both of them tried to build a relationship with the girl's mother at once. However, the Ukrainian suspect had an absolute alibi, which has also been confirmed by the German police.
Currently, police are on duty around the clock at the homes of Valeria's mother and grandmother in Germany. The girl's father, a soldier in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, has already left for Germany to pick up his daughter's body and bury her at home.
Valeria's father has not seen his daughter for two years and hoped that his ex-wife would bring her to Ukraine for the summer vacation. He says he is surprised by the behavior of the woman who sent the child to school alone and did not allow her to take two phones and a smartwatch with her.
The mother of the deceased child said that the last time she saw her daughter was when she left the house to take the bus to school. Valeria was not seen at the school that day, but no one raised the alarm.
