UN admits Russian missile hit Okhmatdyt, but says there is no "final conclusion"

Specialists of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission have analyzed the video footage of the attack on the Okhmatdyt children's hospital on July 8. They concluded that the medical facility was "most likely" hit by a direct hit from a Russian missile and that Ukrainian air defense was not involved in the destruction.

At the same time, the UN has refrained from making any final conclusions. This was stated by the head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission, Danielle Belle, Reuters reports.

Based on the analysis of the video that recorded the attack on Okhmatdyt, the UN suggested that there is a "high probability that the children's hospital was directly hit" by a Russian missile.

"The analysis of the video footage and the assessment conducted at the scene of the incident indicates a high probability that the children's hospital suffered a direct hit (by a Russian missile – Ed.), rather than damage from the interceptor system," Belle said.

According to her, the team of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission visited the site of the hit. At the same time, they have refrained from making any final conclusions, recognizing that "the missile appears to have been launched by the Russian Federation."

Belle noted that Okhmatdyt staff moved the children to a shelter as soon as the air raid alert began. If not, she believes, the number of victims would have been much higher.

Belle also noted that yesterday's shelling "was one of the most egregious attacks we've seen since the start of the full-scale invasion."

As a reminder, on July 8, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine. Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, and other cities came under attack.

In total, dozens of people, including four children, were killed in Russia's morning attack on Ukraine. About 200 civilians were wounded.

In Kyiv alone, as of 15:44 on July 9, 32 people were killed, including 4 children, 120 were injured, including 10 children, and 11 people were rescued.

In total, almost 100 objects were damaged: the Okhmatdyt children's hospital, residential buildings, kindergartens, a maternity hospital, a college, and a business center.
