"When the situation demands it": Ukrainian Navy announces destruction of Crimean bridge

The Ukrainian Defense Forces will certainly destroy the Crimean Bridge, which the occupiers used to connect the temporarily occupied Crimea with the Russian mainland. However, this will not be done on a "symbolic" date and not to cheer up Ukrainians.

The plans for the liberation of the occupied territories include the destruction of this logistics route of the occupiers, but it will be destroyed when the situation requires it. This was stated by Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, in an interview with Ukrinform.

Pletenchuk emphasized that the Crimean bridge, illegally built by Russia, is the main logistical route to supply both the occupation forces on the peninsula and the invaders in the south of mainland Ukraine, in particular, on the left bank of the Kherson region, in Tokmak and other settlements of the Ukrainian south.

And the Crimean bridge will certainly be destroyed, but only when the time is right.

"Unlike the Russians, we do not suffer from symbolism. This helps a lot when fighting with limited resources. If they have a task to take something from somewhere on the birthday of the so-called president of the Russian Federation, we don't. So this makes our task a little easier. Therefore, this bridge will certainly be destroyed, but it will be destroyed when the situation demands it. There is no point in destroying the bridge to cheer people up," the Navy spokesman emphasized.

According to him, the destruction of the Crimean bridge is an integral part of the plans to de-occupy the Ukrainian territories seized by Russia. And like any component of the plan, this one should be implemented in accordance with the overall plan and when it will be most effective.

"When it is necessary to cut off the logistical tails of Crimea and make it an island, it will definitely be done. Therefore, we should wait for the right moment. As you can see, the fire strike on the territory of the temporarily occupied Ukrainian Crimea is not something symbolic, it fits into the overall plan for the liberation of our occupied territory, and the systematic destruction of storage warehouses, control points, headquarters, etc. are elements of one large operation," Pletenchuk said.

He also added that, contrary to established stereotypes, a counteroffensive is not only the area of territory from which the enemy was driven out.

"We often measure the counteroffensive in square kilometers, but this is not very correct, because any such operations are multicomponent, multilayered, there are many elements that must be carried out in the appropriate sequence," the Navy spokesman emphasized.

At the same time, Pletenchuk added that the Russians are aware that sooner or later the Crimean bridge will come under a serious attack. That is why they are taking all possible precautions, ranging from combat dolphins to booby traps on submerged barges, which should stop Ukrainian surface and underwater drones.

However, there are still loopholes in this defense system, and they are sufficient to allow a small drone to slip through.

The occupiers are trying to protect the bridge from air strikes with smoke screens, but it remains to be seen how effective such protection can be.

"Now we see that in the event of any threat, when anything goes up in the air, the Russians immediately block the bridge, they smoke it, that is, they are very careful about this issue, but as you have seen, there have been various ways to bypass their defense systems several times and I am sure there will be more," Pletenchuk summarized.

As a reminder, on October 24, the second parliamentary summit of the Crimean Platform started in the Czech Republic, and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the participants.

In his speech, he noted that Ukraine had managed to destroy the myth of Russia's complete dominance in the Black Sea: after the Defense Forces' accurate attacks on the Russian Black Sea Fleet ships, the aggressor state was forced to move them away from Ukrainian missiles and drones and has already announced the construction of a new base in the occupied territory of Georgia.

The Head of State also assured: Ukraine will definitely liberate all its occupied territories, including Crimea. After all, this is not only a matter of territories, but also of people who are waiting for release under occupation.
