Ukrainian Armed Forces consolidate gained positions in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson region, enemy tries to hinder - General Staff

Ukraine's defence forces continue to conduct an offensive operation in the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions in southern Ukraine and are consolidating their positions. At the same time, the Russian occupiers are trying to impede the advance of our troops.

This is stated in the evening report of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook on 6 July. It is noted that a total of 20 combat engagements took place on the frontline during the day - the Russians are focusing their efforts on the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Maryinka directions.

Russian shelling and the situation on the frontline

On the night of 6 July, the terrorist state launched 10 Kalibr cruise missiles at Ukraine, 7 of which were destroyed by anti-aircraft missile units and Air Force aircraft, and 3 Kalibr missiles hit the city of Lviv. Unfortunately, the terrorist attack resulted in 5 civilian deaths and more than 35 civilians sustaining injuries of varying severity, as well as damage and destruction of more than 35 houses, over 250 apartments, 10 dormitories, an orphanage, two higher education institutions and other civilian infrastructure.

In addition, the enemy carried out 41 air strikes and fired 42 MLRS attacks at the positions of our troops and populated areas. In particular, the Russian army shelled civilian settlements in Kherson and Kharkiv regions.

The enemy maintains a military presence in the Siversky and Slobozhansky directions. It conducted an air strike near Hatyshche in Kharkiv region. Over the last day, it fired mortar and artillery shells at more than 15 localities, in particular in the areas of Stari Vyrki, Iskryskivka, Katerynivka, Zapsil in Sumy region and Cherneshchyna, Odnorobivka and Hoptivka in Kharkiv region.

In the Kupyansk sector, our troops are holding steadfastly. Krasne Pershe, Figolovka, Novomlynsk, Dvorichna, Zakhidne and Kyslivka in Kharkiv region came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman sector, the enemy, with the support of aviation, attempted to force our troops out of their positions near Bilohorivka and Karmazynivka in Luhansk region during the day, but failed. He carried out air strikes near Karmazynivka and Nevske in the Luhansk region and Terny, Ivanivka and Fedorivka in the Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements came under artillery fire, including Nevske and Bilohorivka in Luhansk region and Verkhnekamianske, Berestove, Rozdolivka in Donetsk region.

In the Bakhmut sector, under heavy fire from enemy aircraft and artillery, our defenders successfully repelled enemy attacks in the areas of Ivanivske and Bila Hora. The enemy launched an air strike near Ivanivske in Donetsk region. At the same time, our soldiers continue to conduct offensive operations south and north of the city of Bakhmut, consolidating their positions. More than 15 localities suffered from enemy artillery shelling, including Vasyukivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiyivka, Oleksandr-Shultine, Bila Hora and Diliyivka in Donetsk region.

In the Avdiivka sector, Ukrainian defence forces continue to hold back the Russian offensive in the vicinity of Pervomaiske, Donetsk region. The enemy launched air strikes in the areas of Novokalynove and Avdiivka in Donetsk region. At the same time, the enemy shelled more than 10 localities, including Keramik, Zhelane, Berdychi, Avdiivka, Pervomayske and Karlivka in Donetsk region.

In the Maryinka sector, our defenders repelled all enemy attacks in the area of Maryinka under artillery fire. The occupants launched an air strike near Krasnohorivka, Donetsk region. The enemy fired at more than 10 localities, including Krasnohorivka, Georgiivka, Maksymilianivka, Horostoye, Maryinka and Peremoha in Donetsk region.

In the Shakhtarsk sector, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Novomykhailivka, Donetsk region. It conducted an air strike near Vuhledar. It shelled more than 15 localities, including Blahodatne, Vuhledar, Zolota Niva, Shakhtarske and Velyka Novosilka in Donetsk region.

In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, the enemy is focusing its main efforts on preventing the advance of our troops. It shelled more than 30 settlements, including Malynivka, Huliaypole, Zaliznychne, Yehorivka, Mala Tokmachka in Zaporizhzhia region; Zmiivka, Antonivka, Pryozerne in Kherson region and Kherson. At the same time, the Ukrainian Defence Forces continue to conduct offensive operations in the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions, consolidating their positions, inflicting artillery fire on the enemy targets identified, and conducting counter-battery operations.

Russia's losses in the war

Over the past day, the aviation of the defence forces carried out 6 strikes on the areas of concentration of enemy personnel.

Missile and artillery units hit 1 area of concentration of manpower, weapons and military equipment, 1 ammunition depot, 6 artillery pieces at firing positions and 3 enemy electronic warfare stations.

The General Staff also noted that the occupiers cynically continue to violate international humanitarian law, using children's institutions in the temporarily occupied settlements to deploy their troops and use the civilian population as human shields.

For example, in Novopetrivka, Berdiansk district, Zaporizhzhia region, on the territory of the Vesna children's sanatorium, Russian military personnel have set up a military base with more than 800 Russian soldiers and Russian military equipment in close proximity to the homes of local residents. And in the village of Chumakivka in the Kherson region, where the Russian occupiers converted the Iva recreation centre into a military commandant's office. Patriotic citizens of Ukraine are being interrogated and tortured there.

- Brigadier General Oleksandr Tarnavsky, commander of the Tavria operational and strategic group of troops, said that Ukrainian defenders continue to advance in the Tavria sector. Russian occupation forces are suffering significant losses;

- Natalia Gumenyuk, spokesperson for the Southern Ukrainian Defence Forces, noted that the occupiers in Kherson region are trying to return to the positions they fled from after the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station was blown up in order to continue terrorising the right bank. However, the previous positions are not suitable for use, so the invaders are setting up new ones, in particular, in high-rise buildings.
