The enemy concentrated its efforts in Kharkiv and Donbas regions: 121 combat engagements took place - the General Staff

Ukrainian defenders are bravely holding back the enemy's onslaught and continue to fiercely counter Russian occupiers' attempts to advance into the depths of the country. The enemy has been concentrating its efforts in the Kharkiv region, as well as on the Pokrovske and Kurakhove directions. However, the Armed Forces are aware of the enemy's plans and are doing everything to disrupt them.

This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a summary on May 22, 2024, as of 22:00. It is noted that 121 combat engagements have taken place since the beginning of the day.

Situation at the front

In the Kharkiv sector, Ukrainian troops repelled eight Russian attacks in the vicinity of Liptsi and Starytsia villages. Fighting continues in the Pletenivka-Vovchansk sector. The situation is controlled by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

As of the beginning of the day, the Russian army has lost 87 servicemen and 21 pieces of military equipment in the Kharkiv sector, including two artillery systems that were completely destroyed.

In the Kupyansk sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 22 attacks by Russian invaders. Four combat engagements are still ongoing in the areas of Berestove and Makiivka. According to the General Staff, the situation is under control.

Six attacks by Russian occupants were repelled in the Lyman sector today. The Russian army was not successful.

Two attacks by the Russian army in the vicinity of Vyymka continue in the Siversk sector. The situation is under control. Eight more attempts by the Russian army to advance in the areas of Bilohorivka and Verkhnekamianske have failed this day.

In the Kramatorsk sector, the number of combat engagements increased to 10. Ukrainian defense forces held their positions. Over the last day, Russian occupants lost 58 people in killed and wounded in the sector, destroying a T-90 tank, two armored personnel carriers and four BMP-3 units. Two more such armored infantry vehicles were damaged.

The number of attacks in the Pokrovske sector increased to 25. In particular, the Russian army is trying to break into Ukrainian combat formations with assault groups and equipment. The situation remains tense, with nine combat engagements still ongoing. Ukrainian troops have reportedly destroyed a Russian Su-25 attack aircraft.

In the Kurakhove sector, fighting continues in the area of Heorhiivka. In total, since the beginning of the day, the Russian army has attacked Ukrainian units 18 times in the areas of Novomykhailivka, Krasnohorivka, Kostyantynivka and Paraskoviyivka.

According to the General Staff, the situation in the rest of the sectors has not changed much.

Russian attacks

The enemy launched four missile attacks with five missiles, 37 air strikes using 47 combat aircraft and 376 kamikaze drone strikes, and fired 3,280 times at the positions of our troops using various types of weapons.

Strikes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Aviation, missile and artillery units struck four areas of personnel concentration, two control points, two UAV control stations, one electronic warfare facility, two cannons and a S-400 air defense system. Information on the results of the damage is being clarified.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed a Russian Su-25 attack aircraft. It was shot down in the Pokrovske direction.
