It flies by once every 80 thousand years. 10 brightest photos of Comet ATLAS, which was seen even in Ukraine
Comet C/2023 A3, also known as Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, is being filmed in different parts of our planet and even from space. This tailed visitor, which flies near the Earth once every 80 thousand years, was also seen in the sky over Ukraine.
Although Tsuchinshan-ATLAS has passed its peak of brightness, it can still be seen with the naked eye from the Northern Hemisphere until October 20. And for those who do not have the opportunity to observe the evening sky, OBOZ.UA offers the 10 most striking photos of the comet, which has already impressed astronomers around the world with its beauty.
According to scientists, comet C/2023 A3 was last observed by some of the first humans 80,000 years ago.
Astronauts from the International Space Station (ISS) were the first to see comet C/2023 A3 back on August 20. And then people from Earth could watch the celestial traveler.
Tsuchinshan-ATLAS was flying towards our planet at a speed of 70 km/s.
Scientists immediately stated that this celestial body would be so bright that from late September to mid-October it could be seen in the sky with the naked eye.
From September 27, Tsuchinshan-ATLAS could be seen in the sky as a star-shaped spot with a foggy tail.
After perihelion, the tailed wanderer appeared in the sky only before dawn, and from October 9, its trail could be seen at sunset.
But the closest Tsuchinshan-ATLAS came to Earth was on October 12. It was at this time that observers from all over the world took the most striking photos of it.
According to astronomers, until October 20, C/2023 A3 will still be visible in the night sky with the naked eye.
From October 20 to early December, the Tsuchinshan-ATLAS will be visible in the evening sky only with binoculars and a telescope.
Over the next 20 years, astronomers say, comet C/2023 A3 will move toward the edge of the solar system and not return for another 26,000 years.
