Scholz: Now is the time for discussions on how to speed up the end of the war in Ukraine
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that representatives of the aggressor country Russia should participate in the second Peace Summit. In his opinion, it is time to hold discussions on how to accelerate the end of the war launched by Russia against Ukraine.
He said this in an interview with ZDF. The head of the German government called on all parties to step up efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine.
"It is believed that now is the moment when we need to discuss how we can get out of this military situation and achieve peace faster than it seems possible now," the German Chancellor emphasized.
Scholz also said that he agreed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Russia should be invited to participate in the second Peace Summit.
"There will be another peace conference, and President Zelenskyy and I agree that it should also involve Russia," the politician assured.
Earlier, Zelenskyy did not rule out holding the second Peace Summit in India and voiced a corresponding proposal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Ukraine. However, this requires New Delhi to join the communiqué of the first conference.
The President also noted that Ukraine would prepare a detailed plan to end the war by the second Peace Summit. According to him, it must be attended by representatives of the Russian Federation, because without the aggressor country, it is "very difficult" to diplomatically end the hostilities, and this was also requested by the participants of the first summit.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, Russia is not yet ready for serious negotiations on peace with Ukraine, said Oleksandr Lytvynenko, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council. It is possible to talk to Moscow only from a position of strength.
