US presidential candidate Donald Trump has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of allowing Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The former White House chief did not mention Russian dictator Putin, whose troops attacked Ukraine and have been trying to seize it for three years.

In an interview with YouTuber Patrick Beth David published on Thursday, October 17, Trump called the Ukrainian president "one of the biggest sellouts" he had ever seen. The politician was once again surprised by the amount of aid Ukraine has received from the United States.

"Every time he comes, we give him 100 billion dollars. Who else in history has received such money? It has never happened before. And this does not mean that I do not want to help him, because I feel very sorry for these people. But he (Zelenskyy – Ed.) should never have allowed this war to begin. This war is unwinnable," Trump said.

He also again criticized President Joe Biden for his approach to the war in Ukraine, saying that he "provoked this war."

Earlier it was reported that at a press conference after the European Council meeting in Brussels, Zelenskyy said that during his conversation with Trump, he emphasized the need for Ukraine to join NATO. He recalled the Budapest Memorandum, which failed to protect Ukraine after it gave up nuclear weapons.

"Either Ukraine will have nuclear weapons, and then it will be a defense for us. Or we must have some kind of alliance. Apart from NATO, we do not know any effective alliances today," he said.
