British Intelligence assesses consequences of strike on Calibre carrier in Crimea

The Russian missile ship Cyclone was probably sunk as a result of a Ukrainian strike on the port of Sevastopol in occupied Crimea on May 19. British intelligence is "almost certain" that the Russian missile carrier was hit.

This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defense. "The attack, which likely involved a combination of unmanned aerial vehicles and ATACMS missiles, almost certainly resulted in the sinking of the Cyclone class corvette Karakurt," the statement said.

This ship is one of four Russian Karakurt project vessels equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles.

Two of these vessels were allegedly transferred to the Caspian Sea to safely complete sea trials after a series of successful Ukrainian attacks. The fourth vessel was previously severely damaged in a Ukrainian strike in November 2023.

"Although this is unlikely to significantly change the impact that the Russian Black Sea Fleet has on Ukrainian operations, the incident highlights the ongoing danger to Russian forces operating in Crimea and the Black Sea and Ukraine's continued success in conducting coordinated strikes," British intelligence officials said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, in April it was estimated that during the full-scale war, the Russian Black Sea Fleet has already lost a third of its ships. Among the vessels destroyed by the Ukrainian Defense Forces are not only the flagship but also patrol vessels and large landing craft. There is even a submarine.

Earlier, agents of the Atesh military movement of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars reported that the occupiers are strengthening their naval base in Novorossiysk, where they had previously moved most of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. They are installing various means against marine drones.

The network showed images of damaged ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the bay of the temporarily occupied Sevastopol. Among them are two amphibious assault ships and the Ivan Khurs.
