Ambassador says next eight weeks will be the most difficult in Ukraine's history since 1991

Andrii Melnyk believes that the time before Trump's inauguration will be the most crucial for Ukraine

Ukraine's Ambassador to Brazil Andrii Melnyk believes that the time before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, scheduled for January 20, will be the most difficult for our country in its history. This is due to the fact that Trump is likely to want to fulfill his promises to end the war.

He said this in an interview with Radio Liberty. According to the diplomat, the decision will most likely be made by the day of Trump's inauguration.

"Believe me, my feeling is that these next eight weeks will be the most responsible and difficult in the history of Ukraine after 1991. That is, we need to decide now. When the day of the inauguration comes, I'm afraid that by then the decision will have been made, and then it will be more difficult for us," Melnyk emphasized.

The ambassador believes that Ukrainian diplomacy should actively work with Trump's team to avoid a situation where decisions on Ukraine will be made without Ukraine. According to Melnyk, Kyiv needs to develop several scenarios for ending the war.

Over the next eight weeks, all channels should be used-from diplomatic to family and religious-to ensure that Ukrainian diplomacy works not only in Washington but also at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence.

"In order to really disrupt what we expect, we need to work through several scenarios there, what could happen. The worst thing would be if some decisions are imposed on Ukraine over our heads," the ambassador added.

As a reminder, Donald Trump has repeatedly promised to help end the Russian-Ukrainian war. For its part, Russia is seeking to seize as much land as possible before the inauguration of the new US president.

Earlier, it was reported that Trump could surprise the world by concluding a peace deal that would be beneficial for both Ukraine and the United States. The point is that economic benefits, not geopolitical ambitions, may become the main priority of the new head of the White House.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Trump's future national security adviser Mike Waltz assured that the president-elect's team is cooperating with the current White House administration on issues related to the war in Ukraine.
