Serhiy Lysiuk, a multiple champion of Ukraine, Europe and the world in kickboxing, died as a result of serious injuries sustained in a battle with the Russian occupiers. Doctors in Dnipro fought for the life of the titled athlete and defender from Chernihiv region for about 10 days, but his injuries were too severe.

"Today we got the news that makes us give up, our hearts sink and we don't want to do anything. Serhiy Lysiuk died of severe wounds. He was the pride of the whole sports Ukraine. A bright and kind man - and these are not just words. He was like that - surprisingly kind and decent," reads the message on workhard.chernigov.

"I went to war as a volunteer. For a year, he walked with his comrades on the roads of heroism, pain and suffering. One of the roads was the last for Serhiy. It's a pity when such a strong, trained, cherished man, who was loved by thousands of people, dies... Such a young man," the representatives of the resource reacted to the tragedy.

Serhiy was a very titled fighter - Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine and six-time world kickboxing champion. He also passed on his experience to the younger generation.

On the eve of the full-scale war with Russia, in December 2021, Lysiuk took part in the project "The New York Marathon that No One Wants to Run," where participants ran the distance in the village of New York, Donetsk region, which was located near the front line. And after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the athlete decided to take up arms and go to the front.

Recently, the kickboxer has been defending his land and family from Russian aggression in the Donetsk sector. On November 12, it became known that while performing a combat mission in one of the hottest spots in Donbas, he hit a mine.

As a result of the explosion, Serhiy was severely injured, and doctors had to amputate his leg. For about 10 days, doctors in Dnipro fought for the life of the defender from Chernihiv region, but on November 22 it became known that Lysyuk unfortunately lost in this fight...

"My optimistic and just angel! Today we lost the battle for your life together. I do not doubt for a minute that you did everything possible and impossible to live! You always smiled in response to any difficulties and laughed in the face of danger, you were always honest, fair and very modest... You were my husband, my friend, my brother, my life! Apparently, heaven also needs someone to protect, otherwise they would not have taken you from us... I don't want to believe that I will never see your smile again. As I promised, I won't cry. I will pray and kiss our son, as you always asked... I love you infinitely," his wife Olena wrote.

The defender is also survived by a young son.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that a chess player who was saving lives was killed in the battles for the left bank of the Kherson region. Familiar athletes noted that Russian snipers are the first to try to "shoot" medics.
