We are not playing for Zelenskyy, we are playing for all of our people - Rebrov
At a press conference on the eve of the 10th round of the Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy, Ukraine's head coach Serhii Rebrov said that he had not spoken to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy before the game. Serhii is confident that the head of state has more important tasks now.
"He always supports us, wishes us good luck, and is very interested in football. Of course, he has more important things to do now, we understand that. But we are not playing for Zelenskyy, we play for our people, for those who support us. All the players of the national team are ready for tomorrow," Rebrov said.
The coach also emphasized that the Ukrainian national team is ready for a tough battle.
"We have considered many tactics on our part. How will Italy play? They have very talented players who can play both defense and offense, they are a very intense team. They played two days ago, but Italy always has several lineups. We have to be ready for a tense game. We have already made a decision, and tomorrow we will provide the players with information on how we will act. I don't think Italy will come out tomorrow to play for a draw. It is not the type of team, not the type of coach," the head coach summarized.
As reported, on Monday, November 20, Serhii Rebrov's team will play a nominally home match against the Italian national team. This game will not affect the entry of Ukrainians into the playoffs of the League of Nations as on November 19 Ukraine won this ticket and an additional chance to make it to the final part of the 2024 UEFA European Championship.
Before the Euro 2024 qualifier to be held in Leverkusen, Germany, the Ukrainians are third in Quintet C with 13 points. Italy is second in head-to-head meetings.
