Filchakov refused to take a photo with Gonibov

Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestler Yaroslav Filchakov refused to take part in a joint photo shoot with Russian representative Aues Gonibov at the 2023 World Championships in Belgrade. Our compatriot managed to win a bronze medal in the 82-kilogram weight category and organized a boycott of his opponent from the aggressor country.

Filchakov, along with the tournament winner, Azerbaijani Rafig Huseynov, silver medalist Alireza Mohmadipiani of Iran and Gonibov, reached the podium. Our compatriot left the venue immediately after the award ceremony, refusing to be photographed.

In this way, Yaroslav demonstrated his attitude to the Russians, as well as to Mohmadipiani, whose country supplies the Russian occupiers with kamikaze drones and other weapons that Russia uses to hit peaceful Ukrainian cities.

Earlier, the President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSB) Mikhail Mamiashvili called the refusal of Ukrainian Valentyn Bliasetsky to shake hands with Russian representative Abasgadzhi Magomedov at the 2023 World Cup "complete disgrace". In addition, the Russian representative said Ukrainians are leaving a "good family."

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the International Wrestling Federation (UWW) amended the rules for the 2023 World Championships due to the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian championship winner Vasyl Mykhailov refused to be photographed with a Russian at the award ceremony.
