Famous Ukrainian tennis player Nadiia Kichenok and German Anna-Lena Friedsam have won the WTA 250 doubles tournament in Osaka with a prize pool of $259,000. The Ukrainian-German duo defeated Russia's Anna Kalinskaya and Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva 7:6 (7:3), 6:3 in the finals.

24-year-old Kalinskaya is a winner of three WTA doubles tournaments, a former world junior number three and a 2015 Russian women's singles champion.

The match in Japan lasted more than 100 minutes and was quite difficult for our compatriot. Putintseva/Kalinskaya confidently took a 3-1 lead but failed to maintain their advantage. The Ukrainian and the German managed to take the serve and bring the game to a tiebreaker, where they defeated their opponents with a score of 7-3.

The advantage of Kichenok/Friedsam was undeniable in the second set. Having made a break twice, their victory became quite obvious.

After the victory, Nadiia ignored the Russian tennis player, refusing to shake her hand.

Kichenok and Friedsam won the trophy for the first time in the three finals they played together. For 31-year-old Kichenok, this is the ninth doubles title in her career.

On July 13, Nadiia Kichenok became the Wimbledon 2023 mixed doubles champion. Together with her partner Mate Pavic from Croatia, the Dnipro native defeated the duo of Joran Fliegen (Belgium) / Xu Yifan (China) 6-4, 5-7 (9-11), 6-3.
