Ukraine wins first gold at the European Games 2023

Ukrainian canoeists Lyudmila Luzan and Valeria Tereta won gold medals of the European Games 2023, which started the day before in Polish Krakow. This award became the first for our country at the prestigious competition.

Our girls took part in canoe doubles 500 meters competition. The Ukrainians reached the final after taking the second place in their semi-final heat with a time of 1:59.152 minutes.

In the final, Luzan and Tereta fought for the lead throughout the race with the duo from Spain - the current European vice-champions Antia Jacome and Maria Corbera. As a result, the Ukrainians beat their opponents by three tenths of a second and finished first, having improved their result by almost one second compared to the qualifying - 1:58.233 minutes.

After the triumph of our girls at the European Games in Krakow, the audience heard the Ukrainian anthem for the first time.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, Polish Sports Minister Kamil Bortnichuk said that after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia, his country has taken a tough and clear position on the participation of Russians and Belarusians in the European Games - 2023.
