Ukraine has decided to boycott the World Judo Championship 2023, to which the Russians were admitted
The Ukrainian judo team will boycott the world championship, Suspilne reports with reference to the head coach of the team, Vitaly Dubrova. Mundial, which will be held in Doha from 7 to 14 May, is a qualification for the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.
The reason for this decision was the statement of the International Judo Federation (IJF), which admitted representatives of Russia and Belarus to the World Cup 2023. At the same time, instead of athletes from the top 100, Belarusians were added, who occupy the 215th and 175th places.
"On the list of Russians, almost all athletes are involved in the security forces or are members of the CSKA or the Rosgvardia. Moreover, there are a lot of photos on the Internet, where they are in uniform, from Shoigu taking pictures, receiving awards. So to say that there was some kind of monitoring, of course no one did it, what a formality," Dubrova said.
According to the coach, an official statement of the Judo Federation of Ukraine will be released on Monday.
"The president of the federation Mikhail Koshlyak is leaving for Qatar, because the world congress will take place in Doha on May 4 and 5. He will be there and is preparing a speech, we try to fight. But it's very difficult in our sport, because everything is decided behind the scenes. Everything is so 'ugly', to put it mildly," the mentor said.
It should be noted that the day before the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin, commenting on the decision of the International Judo Federation (IJF) on the admission with verification, called these restrictions discrimination and demanded respect for athletes from Russia.
