Kovalenko moves to Empoli

Ukraine midfielder Viktor Kovalenko will not play for Italian side Atalanta this season. The 27-year-old native of Kherson will continue his career with another Serie A club, Tuscan Empoli.

This is reported by the official website of the Blues. Our compatriot joined the team from the Carlo Castellani Stadium, signing a one-year lease agreement. At the same time, Empoli will have the first right to buy out Victor's full contract from Atalanta.

Empoli finished last season in 14th place in the Serie A, 12 points clear of the relegation zone. At that time, Kovalenko defended the colours of Spezia, which left the top flight of the Italian championship.

The Ukrainian has 20 matches in all competitions. Viktor did not perform effectively, missing part of the season (14 games) due to injury. Kovalenko may make his debut for the new team on 26 August in an away game against Monza.

Earlier, the leader of the Ukrainian national team Ruslan Malinowski left French side Marseille and signed a contract with a newcomer to Serie A. At the same time, the player was not called up to the national team for the 2024 European Championship qualifiers against England (9 September) and Italy (12 September).

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Ukraine midfielder Mykhailo Mudryk has faced new problems at Chelsea in London.
