UEFA responds to participation of Crimean clubs in Russian championship

Maksym InshakovSport
Two teams from the peninsula played their first matches in the Russian championship.

The European Football Union (UEFA) commented on the debut matches of Crimean clubs in the Russian championship. Last Sunday, Yalta's Rubin drew with Novokuban's Biolog (1-1), while Sevastopol defeated Rostov's SKA (3-1).

"We are now assessing the situation, especially in light of the 2014 decision to ban Crimean clubs from participating in competitions under the auspices of the RFU and the creation of a "special zone" in Crimea until further notice. We are in contact with the RFU and the Ukrainian Football Association," the UEFA press service said.

As reported OBOZREVATEL, the Ukrainian Football Association called illegal the inclusion of teams from temporarily occupied Crimea in Division B of the second league of the Russian championship.
