UEFA and FIFA ban Turkish giant from signing contract with Gazprom - media
Istanbul's Beşiktaş has cancelled negotiations with Russian state-owned Gazprom, with which it was going to sign a sponsorship agreement. The Turkish club has received signals from the European Football Union (UEFA) and the International Football Federation (FIFA) that an agreement with representatives of the aggressor country could have negative consequences.
This was reported by 90min.com. Beşiktaş had been negotiating with Gazprom for a long time, and Russia even disclosed the terms of the deal. The Turks intended to earn up to 100 million euros over five years of cooperation with the main company of the terrorist state.
However, due to the UEFA and FIFA sanctions against Russia, the Eagles were forced to abandon the deal with Gazprom. Instead, the Istanbul giant agreed on a sponsorship deal with Emirates. The Emirati airline giant will pay 32 million euros to Beşiktaş over three years.
Earlier, the president of Turkish Fenerbahce, Ali Koc, expressed his enthusiasm for cooperation with Zenit St Petersburg and travelled to Russia for talks with Gazprom. He called himself "the only one who defends Russia".
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Bosnia and Herzegovina's captain Edin Dzeko travelled with Turkish side Fenerbahce to Russia for a friendly match against Zenit.
