Serhiy Berezniak, a prize-winner of the 2015 Ukrainian Karate Championship and winner of the Ukrainian Karate Cup and a coach in this sport, died in the war against the Russian occupiers. The life of the defender of Ukraine ended while performing a combat mission at the front.

This was reported by Berezniak's friend Serhiy Timchenko on his Facebook page. The native of Valky, Kharkiv Oblast, is survived by his wife and two children. In the mid-2010s, the man opened a karate club in his hometown, where many winners of Ukrainian championships of all ages trained.

"The consciousness refuses to accept it, but still; my friend, a prize-winner of the Ukrainian Karate Championship, a great coach, father of two children, a bright, sincere, kind, interesting person, Serhiy Berezniak, died while performing a mission in the Armed Forces. Dear friends, let's thank the hero's family for giving his life for our country and us! Earlier in April, the Ukrainian karate community lost the silver medallist of the 2016 Junior National Championships, Mykola Yaremchuk, who was killed in action near Kramatorsk.
