"Three times rewatched." What happened in the Lomachenko-Haney fight stunned Usik's ex-trainer

Canadian coach Russ Anber, who trained with Alexander Usik, believes it was necessary to give the Ukrainian the victory in the fight between Vasyl Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) and Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KOs). According to the Canadian specialist, he repeatedly reviewed the fight and each time came to the unequivocal conclusion that Vasyl had been robbed by the judges.

Anber admitted that he was shocked by the result of announcing the judges' notes in Las Vegas, when all referees gave the advantage to the American.

"When the first score of 116-112 was announced, I started to feel comfortable. I was sure that Vasiliy would get the decision. Then 115-113. 'We'll get it,' I thought to myself. But it turned out I was wrong. Then I watched the Haney-Lomachenko fight three times and every time I gave the win to Vasyl," Anber wrote in his Pro Box TV column.

Russ believes that even the only reason they gave the 12th round to Haney was because the Ukrainian fighter didn't fight as hard as he did in the 10th or 11th round.

"After every review, and gave Vasily either eight rounds against four or seven against five. It's unclear to me where the judges found the seven rounds supposedly won by Devin," the Canadian trainer said.

According to the Canadian, it is time for the commissions and sanctioning bodies to change the way fights are scored. Anber recommends that in addition to the three judges at the ring, another independent panel of referees be seated elsewhere. If the three at ringside and the judging panel are of the same opinion, that's fine, but if the judging panel goes against the scores given by the three judges at ringside, then the total must be changed.

"I'm still worried about him. He was hurt. He was so unprotected. When he lost to Orlando Salido, referee Lawrence Cole did a terrible job of letting Salido get away with fouls throughout the fight. When he fought Teofimo Lopez, he did it without a rematch clause. When I watched the Haynie fight, I saw a lot more of Vasily's subtleties - and I don't believe the three judges at ringside didn't see it. I saw Basil fight to win, and I saw Haney fight not to lose," concluded the catman.
