"This is ridiculous!" The Russian Olympic champion spoke about the World Cup, where "some Denmark or Switzerland" play
Two-time Olympic champion Alexander Maltsev has spoken ambiguously about the World Ice Hockey Championship, which is currently taking place in the Czech Republic. The former USSR national team forward noted that teams that had not even participated in the tournament before are now succeeding at the championship.
Maltsev said this in an interview with VseProSport. According to the winner of the games in Sapporo-72 and Innsbruck-76, he is not sure that the Russian national team has now managed to overcome at least one round of the playoffs, in which "some Denmark and Switzerland" are taking part.
"This is the way hockey is now, you can't tell who's going to win and who's going to lose. There are countries playing now, like some Denmark or Switzerland have started playing hockey, it's ridiculous for us, it used to be like that! And now I don't know how we would play. We're losing the rhythm of the game. There is no certainty that Russia would have reached the semifinals now," the former hockey player said.
It should be noted that the Swiss national team will play Canada in the semifinals of the 2024 World Cup. The Danes took seventh place in Group A and retained their residence in the elite division of world hockey.
