Rekunova and Fedyankin started at the Olympics

15-year-old Ukrainian figure skaters Sofia Rekunova and Denis Fedyankin have begun their performances at the Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon, South Korea. The pair from Kyiv, who almost ended their careers due to Russia's full-scale invasion and have been skating together for only a year and a half, showed the 11th result in rhythm dance.

This was reported by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine (NOC). "Our young compatriots were incredibly inspired when they saw the blue and yellow flags in the arena, receiving an incredible charge of emotions and pride for the country.

"There are no words to describe the feeling of competing in such a large-scale competition and being applauded by so many spectators. You stand in the middle of a big ice arena and thousands of people are watching you. It's just amazing. When I arrived at the arena and saw Ukrainian flags and my teammates in the stands, I realized that everything would be fine. With such support, it just couldn't be otherwise," Rekunova commented.

The more reserved Denis agreed with his partner. He noted that although there was excitement, the skaters managed to avoid any major mistakes. "I can't say that there was excessive excitement. I think we coped with our task today, we showed a good skate and the coach was also pleased," he summarized.
