Australian and French soccer players played a real thriller

The women's national teams of Australia and France played the longest penalty shootout in history. Both teams needed 10 kicks each to determine the winner in the 1/4 finals of the FIFA World Cup.

The main time ended in a 0-0 draw. There were no goals in extra time too. To determine the winner, the teams began to hit 11-meter kicks and the Australian team won with a score of 7:6.

20 kicks from two national teams is the record in penalty shootouts at the men's and women's World Cup.

The decisive tenth strike was delivered by Sydney FC forward Courtney Vine, who with an accurate strike into the bottom corner put her national team into the World Cup semifinals for the first time in history.

Australia will face England in Sydney on Aug. 16 to advance to the final. The other semifinal will be played a day earlier by Spain and Sweden, who got past the Netherlands and Japan, respectively.
