The former president of Leeds, Massimo Cellino, who owned the club from 2014 to 2017, told how he accidentally fired the team's head coach, Brian McDermott. In an interview with the Daily Mail, the Italian admitted that his poor knowledge of a foreign language was to blame.

"My English was terrible when I bought Leeds in 2014. When I arrived, there was a velvet sofa in the office on Elland Road. It was purple. I said: "Change this fucking couch, I don't want to see it anymore," Cellino recalled, adding that as a result, his charges fired the head coach.

Cellino realized the seriousness of his mistake only when he was asked before the next game, "Who will manage the team tomorrow?"

"I said: "Why don't we have a head coach?" I was answered: "You fired him". I fired him? Oh, shit," Cellino said.

The 67-year-old Cagliari native said that after that, 2000 Leeds fans came to the club's office to deal with him, so he had to flee in a police car.

As OBOZ.UA reported, McDermott was in charge of Leeds from April 2013 to May 2014. During this time, the team under his leadership played 54 matches in all tournaments, winning 20 and losing 25.
