Svitolina defeated Azarenko for the first time in her career and reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina (WTA #75) beat No. 20 Victoria Azarenko of Belarus in the third round of the Wimbledon. The 1/8 finals match ended with the score 6:2, 4:6, 6:7 (9:11).

Prior to that the rivals have crossed each other 5 times and not once the Ukrainian has not won.

The start of the meeting began badly for the 28-year-old Odessa player. Elina could not keep up with the rapid serves of her opponent, and lost the first set. The 33-year-old player from Belarus played competently on the important serves without giving a chance to break.

In the second game Azarenko easily led 2-0, but Svitolina was able to turn the match around. With each game the Ukrainian player increased the power, depth and power of her strokes. The opponent began to run out of steam, while our tennis player kept the rhythm.

"After the birth of my daughter, this is the second happiest moment of my life. There's so much support in the stands, it's hard to hold back the tears. This is an incredible victory. I know how hard it is for the Ukrainians now and that's why I fought for every point," Elina commented on her victory.

In the quarterfinals Svitolina will play against the first racket of the world Iga Schwentek.
