Rodnina speaks out about Valiyeva's case

Three-time Olympic champion Irina Rodnina has criticized Russia's appeal against the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (CAS) to disqualify figure skater Kamila Valiyeva. The former State Duma deputy called it a waste of time because there is no chance of success.

Rodnina said this in an interview with the propaganda channel Match TV. The former figure skater, who won the Games in Sapporo 72, Innsbruck 76 and Lake Placid 80, also admitted that Valiyeva did use banned drugs, as the skater's side did not deny this fact.

"As far as I understand, Valiyeva's side had previously challenged the period and date of the disqualification, not the presence of the banned drug. What's the point of appealing the decision now? I wonder, whose money was used to start such a hectic activity? Could it be public money? Or sponsorship money? In general, an appeal to the CAS now is shooting in the dark. What's the point of waving your fists now? Only if we remind ourselves of ourselves once again," Rodnina said.

As a reminder, CAS found Valiyeva guilty of violating anti-doping rules. Later it became known that the Russian court could not even prove the existence of Kamila's grandfather, who allegedly made her a cake containing a banned substance.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Kamila Valiyeva, who was called a replacement for Alina Kabayeva in the entourage of dictator Vladimir Putin, epically bent over before the Kremlin leader and became a laughingstock on the Internet.
