"What is the humiliation?" Russian Olympic champion suddenly changes her rhetoric on suspension

Rodnina speaks out about the IOC

Three-time Olympic champion Irina Rodnina called the situation with the suspension of Russian athletes from international competitions normal. The former State Duma deputy noted that she does not consider it a humiliation to cooperate with various organizations to return athletes from Russia.

Rodnina said this in a comment to the Sport24 portal. According to the former figure skater and an associate of Vladimir Putin's dictatorial regime, Russia should get closer to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as the country has also often boycotted international tournaments.

"Rapprochement with the IOC? If we want to participate in the Olympics and the Olympic movement, we need to find points of understanding and interaction. What is the humiliation? When have we ever been treated well? In addition to the current boycott, similar things happened in previous decades. And we also boycotted. So it's quite reciprocal - each country is trying to catch up or demand something. There are constant changes and violations of the Olympic Charter. At least we will never humiliate ourselves and go backwards," Rodnina said.

Earlier, two-time Olympic champion Dmitry Vasilyev called on Russian officials to seize power in the IOC by appointing "their" president.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova demands that IOC presidential candidate Sebastian Coe return the gold medal from the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
