At the final match of the Copa Sudamericana between Racing (Avellaneda) and Cruzeiro, one of the Argentine fans brought the skull of his late grandfather, Dailysports reports citing ESPN Argentina. The man explained that it became his tradition because of the late Valentin Aguilera's passionate love for Racing.
His favorite grandson dug up his grandfather's skull in 2019, when the club won the national championship.
"I always take my grandfather's skull with me to important events because he was a loyal fan of the team," the fan said.
This is not the first time fans have honored the memory of their loved ones in this way. In 2019, another Racing fan, Gabriel Aranda, also brought his grandfather's skull to celebrate the team's victory in the Argentine championship.
As for the match itself, the hosts showed a bright game, winning a confident 3-1 victory. The key moment was the first half, where Gaston Martinera and Adrian Martinez made it 2-0 in the first 20 minutes. In the second half, Cruzeiro reduced the deficit through Jorge's efforts, but Rojer Martinez put the game out of reach in the final seconds.
The Argentine club won the tournament for the first time in its history.
