Russian occupants killed the vice-champion of the European rowing team of Ukraine
On October 28, a member of the Ukrainian national rowing team, Danylo Yehorov, was killed during a combat mission near New York (Bakhmut district, Donetsk region), the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine reports. The hero was 24 years old.
Danylo has represented Ukraine on the international stage since 2016. He began his sports career in Zaporizhzhia region under the guidance of coach Volodymyr Gaponenko and later played for Mykolaiv region. He studied at the Mykolaiv VUFC and the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding.
Yehorov won a bronze medal at the 2017 European Junior Championships and a silver medal at the 2019 European Under-23 Championships.
When the full-scale invasion began, I volunteered. He served in the Azov regiment. He was awarded the honorary badges of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "Golden Cross" (06.09.2023) and "For Saving Life" (30.01.2024).
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, last year, the master of sports of Ukraine in rowing Oleksandr Dykyi was killed in the fighting in Donbas.
As of October 1, 2024, 516 Ukrainian coaches and athletes have been killed as a result of Russia's full-scale invasion, who changed their uniforms for pixels, took up arms, and went to defend their homeland from the invaders. Also, since February 24, 2022, 523 sports infrastructure facilities in Ukraine have been destroyed or damaged.
