A scandal arose around Fedotov

CSKA Moscow and the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), run by Russia, have become the catalysts for a scandal and conflict with the National Hockey League (NHL). The Army announced the signing of a contract with goaltender Ivan Fedotov, who has a current contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.

According to Sport-Express, the KHL registered Fedotov's transfer without consulting the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), which is against all the rules. Moreover, without receiving a transfer card from the IIHF, a player cannot be allowed to participate in the championship.

For his part, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said in a commentary to the propaganda news agency TASS that the league had informed the Russian side of the Russian national team goaltender's agreement with the Flyers. "To the extent that he plays in the KHL, it will be a violation of his existing NHL contract. We have informed the KHL that Fedotov's contract with Philadelphia has been extended," the official said.

It is worth noting that the KHL and NHL had a memorandum of understanding before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. After the war started, it was suspended, but the agreements continued to be in force.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, two-time Olympic champion Vyacheslav Fetisov criticised his friend Dominik Hasek, demanding that the legendary Czech goalkeeper return the money he earned while playing in the KHL.
