Euroleague disqualifies Russia

The Euroleague basketball board has extended the suspension of Russian clubs for the next season of the tournament. The decision was approved at the organisation's shareholders' meeting on Tuesday.

This was reported by the Euroleague's official website. The suspension also applies to the Eurocup, which is held under the auspices of the Euroleague.

Immediately after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russians were excluded from European basketball tournaments. CSKA Moscow, UNICS Kazan, and Zenit St. Petersburg failed to finish the 2021/22 Euroleague season, and Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar failed to play in the European Cup.

Last June, it was announced that the aggressors would be excluded from Euroleague tournaments for the 2022/23 season. It is worth noting that Russian clubs continue to participate in the operations of the basketball organisation and remain its shareholders.

Earlier, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) did not allow the national teams of Russia and Belarus to participate in the qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the famous Swedish basketball player Yunas Zherebko complained that he was unemployed at home after a trip to Russia.
