Olympic champion Dominik Hašek has harshly criticized the National Hockey League (NHL) for allowing Russian athletes to play in the league despite Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The former Czech national team, Buffalo Sabres, and Detroit Red Wings goaltender called the decision of the NHL management a complete failure.

Hašek wrote about this on his page on X, formerly known as Twitter. The two-time Stanley Cup winner emphasized that by allowing Russians to play, the NHL is promoting Russia's war crimes against Ukraine and is responsible for the victims of aggression.

"Yes, they don't touch Russian hockey players because they are hired hands and don't decide anything... This is a complete failure of the NHL, which allows Russian citizens to publicly perform (play) and thus advertise war and crimes. The NHL is responsible for the lost lives of Ukrainians (and Russians) and must pay for it," Hašek said.

Earlier, he said that Russians have no right to play in international tournaments "until they leave Ukraine and put Putin on trial." For this, CSKA's honorary president Boris Mikhailov lashed out at the Czech with insults.

It is worth noting that Hašek has been a vocal supporter of Ukraine. After a trip to Kyiv and Kharkiv last summer, he recorded a video message to Ukrainians, wishing them to "drive the Russian sh*t away."
