"People are killed for nothing": Russian national team hockey player spoke out about the war in Ukraine

Russian national hockey player Nikita Zadorov has admitted that he has refused to travel to his home country since the outbreak of a full-scale war in Ukraine. The Calgary Flames player noted that he could not afford to live in peace in the aggressor country while peaceful Ukrainian cities were being bombed by the Russian armed forces.

Zadorov said this in an interview with the vDud YouTube channel. At the same time, the 2019 World Championships bronze medalist added that he would not travel to Russia because of the mobilization announced by Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin exactly one year ago.

"Why don't I go to Russia after the war started? It's disgusting. I'm not going to go to restaurants to eat when people are being killed by bombs 1000 kilometers away. Somehow my conscience doesn't allow it even a little bit. Of course, this is not the only reason why I did not go. Mobilization may begin and I may simply not leave the country. Why take these risks? I play hockey in America. I suppose I may never come back to Russia again. But I want to come back," Zadorov said.

Earlier, Olympic champion Alexander Kozhevnikov called legendary hockey goaltender Dominik Hasek a bastard for supporting Ukrainians in a Russian criminal war.
