Paris Olympics set a record for the number of tickets sold, refuting Putin's words that the competition is not interesting without Russia
A record number of tickets have been sold for the Summer Olympics in Paris, France24 reports, citing AFP. The 2024 Olympics will be held in the French capital from July 26 to August 11.
"The previous record belonged to the 1996 Atlanta Olympics (8.3 million), and we have surpassed that figure. We have sold 8.6 million tickets for the Games and more than a million for the Paralympics. We are proud of the new record, but we can still do better," said Tony Estanguet, Chairman of the Olympic Organizing Committee.
Paris organizers predict that the total number of participants will rise to 10 million for the Olympic Games and 3.4 million for the Paralympic Games, which will take place from August 28 to September 8.
"There are a lot of really good options at different prices for both the Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games, and the opening and closing ceremonies," Estanguet said.
In this way, the organizers of the 2024 Olympics refuted the narratives of Russian officials and MPs that no one is interested in the Games without Russia.
The ticket sales statistics also ridiculed Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, who has repeatedly said that without his country, the Olympic Games "lose a lot."
Russian fans also could not get past this failure of their propagandists, commenting ironically on the news about the tickets.
"This is nonsense. No one is interested in these games without Russians, everyone knows that. Don't they read newspapers?", "Bullsh**! We all know perfectly well that no one wants to watch this notorious Olympics, they don't even take tickets for free, athletes from all over the world refuse to participate in it, television is not interested in it and instead it shows the HRC Championship and the Children of Asia," users mock.
