Legendary Edwin van der Sar in intensive care after brain hemorrhage

Legendary goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar suffered a brain hemorrhage while resting on a Croatian island. The 52-year-old Manchester United and Dutch national team star was delivered to a nearby hospital.

"He is currently in the hospital in the intensive care unit and is in stable condition. We will report as soon as more concrete information is available," Ajax, for whom van der Sar played from 1990 to 1999, reported on Twitter account

The goalkeeper won the Champions League with both Ajax and Manchester United.

While playing for a team at Old Trafford, he also lost two Champions League finals, one of which was during his last game against Barcelona in 2011 before he retired.

Van der Sar most recently worked at Ajax, the Eredivisie giant, but left his post after the club finished third last season.

"After almost eleven years on board, I'm done. We had some great things together, but it was also an incredibly difficult period," he said leaving his job.

In May 2006, the Dutchman married Annemarie Van Kesteren. Van der Sarah has a 25-year-old son, Joe, who recently played for the Pittsburgh Panthers.
