Famous mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor has been found guilty of sexual assault against Nikita Hand, which took place in 2018 in Dublin, Sky Sports reports. The Irishman was punished in a civil lawsuit, meaning he could not be prosecuted and imprisoned.

A High Court jury in Dublin ordered McGregor, 36, to pay Hand compensation in the amount of €248,603 (£206,000).

The fighter himself first announced on his social media account X that he would appeal, but later deleted the tweet.

The court found that Hand and McGregor knew each other and sometimes communicated through social media. Before the attack, Nikita contacted McGregor, who came to pick her and her friend up in his car.

According to the plaintiff, McGregor "hit on her," but she did not want to have sexual intercourse because she was in her menstrual phase.

During the trial, McGregor claimed that he and Hand had consensual sex in the Beacon Hotel penthouse in December 2018.

The trial also included testimony about the injuries the victim sustained, including bruises on her arms and wrists, a bloody scratch on her chest, and pain in her neck.

Hand, speaking to reporters after the court hearing, called these weeks of the trial a "nightmare."

"I want to say that I have been overwhelmed and touched by the support I have received from everyone," she said.

The victim also emphasized that the case affected not only her life, but also the lives of her daughter, friends and family.

"This is something I will never forget. Now that justice has been served, I can try to move on and look forward to the future with my family, friends and daughter," she added.

McGregor's lawyers denied the allegations and said that Hand was trying to "blackmail" their client. They presented a surveillance video showing Hand arriving at the hotel and leaving it with McGregor and another man, James Lawrence, whom she also accused of assault.

McGregor and Lawrence denied their guilt. As a result, the court found Lawrence not guilty, and Hand lost the case against him.
