'It's a horror'. Russia's humiliation by the IOC has caused hysteria and shock in Russian Federation

Russian officials and athletes threw their trademark tantrum after the International Swimming Federation (World Aquatics) approved the criteria for neutral status. Athletes from the Russian Federation were allowed to compete exclusively in individual events and a maximum of one athlete per distance.

Thus, for example, Russian synchronized swimmers will not be able to qualify for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

"All these are flawed conditions on which our athletes will not perform," said Alexander Zhukov, first deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma and honorary president of the Russian Olympic Committee.

Two-time Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics Lidia Ivanova said that it is impossible to take part in tournaments on the terms of the IOC.

"I didn't even envision such idiotic conditions, it's already some kind of mockery. I am happy that they lost a lot of money at the last Olympics. The Games without our participation are second-class chicken! It's uninteresting, it's missing the cutting edge that attracts sponsors. We're too big a sporting power to suffer such humiliation. You see, they have already gotten to the point where not only the anthem and flag have been taken away, but you can't even speak," the 86-year-old Ivanova said.

Four-time synchronized swimming world champion Varvara Subbotina was shocked by the World Aquatics requirements.

"I am, of course, a little shocked by the news, but for some reason I had a premonition that this would happen, unfortunately. The ban on communication with the media is generally a horror, I think," - quotes 22-year-old Subbotina "Match TV".

Tatyana Pokrovskaya, the head coach of the Russian national synchronized swimming team, called the decision of the International Swimming Federation (World Aquatics) lawless.

Two-time Olympic champion Dmitry Sautin was also furious about the conditions of admission of Russian representatives to international competitions.
