Hasek supports Ukraine

Dominik Hasek, the Nagano 98 Olympic champion, admitted that he was incredibly inspired by Ukrainian soldiers during his visit to Kyiv and Kharkiv earlier this summer. The legendary hockey goalkeeper noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers are determined to drive the Russian occupiers from our land completely despite heavy losses.

Hasek said this in an interview with the Current Time publication. The Czech Stanley Cup winner recalled meeting Ukrainian hockey players, some of whom were seriously injured during the war against Russia but continued to resist the aggressors.

"We had an evening at a restaurant. There were about fifteen former hockey players there. We were drinking beer and talking. And two of these guys came back from Bakhmut. Both were seriously injured. One was missing an eye, the other had an injured leg. And they did not complain, they were convinced that they were fighting for their country. This impressed me. It was hard to see how seriously they were wounded. But their attitude was inspiring. I am overwhelmed with feelings for the Ukrainian people and especially these soldiers," he said.

It should be noted that after his trip to Ukraine, the Czech recorded a video message to Ukrainians, wishing them to "drive the Russian sh*t away." He also put Russian Vyacheslav Fetisov in his place, who demanded that Hasek return all the money he earned at Spartak to Russia.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Dominik Hasek expressed his gratitude to Ukrainians for "defending not only their country but also the freedom of the world."
