The legendary Czech hockey goalkeeper Dominik Hasek has once again thanked Ukrainians for standing up to Russian aggression. The Nagano 98 Olympic champion emphasized that the people of our country and its soldiers on the front line are defending not only their homeland but also the freedom of the entire world.

Hasek said this in an interview with the Current Time Russian newspaper. The Stanley Cup winner recalled his trip to Kharkiv and Kyiv in early summer. Speaking about it, he noted that he wanted to express his gratitude and support for Ukrainians and hockey in our country.

"I wanted to thank them not only for what Ukraine is doing for their country but also for what they are doing for my country and the rest of the world because it is very important. They are defending not only their country but also the freedom of the world. And I wanted to say thank you. As a former hockey player, I also wanted to contact their federation and support Ukrainian hockey. Unfortunately, today Ukrainian children can only play in six or seven arenas because all the others are damaged, destroyed or in the Russian-occupied zone. I came here to support Ukrainian hockey so that it can survive and children can go out on the ice and play," Hasek said.

It should be noted that after his trip to Ukraine, the Czech recorded a video message to Ukrainians, wishing them to "drive the Russian sh*t away." He also put Russian Vyacheslav Fetisov in his place, who demanded that Hasek return all the money he had earned at Spartak to Russia.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, two-time Olympic champion Vyacheslav Fetisov was outraged by the conditions for Russian athletes to be admitted to the 2024 Olympics in Paris in neutral status and accused the IOC of mocking Russian representatives when they "fight for the future of the country" in Ukraine.
