"I can imagine how the Russians are burning": Usyk's words after his act with Mazepa's saber in the rematch with Fury became known
Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) was inspired by the idea of raising the saber of Hetman Ivan Mazepa above his head after defeating Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) in a rematch. The 37-year-old boxer took the opportunity to remind the world and Russian enemies of the resilience of the Ukrainian people and their will to freedom.
This was written on her Facebook page by Yaroslava Gres, a well-known PR specialist who was one of the initiators of the performance. According to her, Usyk liked the idea very much, and he also watched the world media pay a lot of attention to this act of the boxer.
"How long did it take Oleksandr Usyk to decide whether he wanted to raise the saber of the famous Hetman, whose name had been vilified by Russians for centuries, above his head? 5 minutes. From the moment I sent him three photos with the offer of the Chernihiv Regional Historical Museum: Mazepa's saber, Semen Paliy's feather and a silver gospel. Usyk typed. "Of course, the saber. Of course, Mazepa. Of course we do it." No hesitation. At four in the morning, after the battle, we watched the first international media coverage, and Oleksandr smiled broadly with his satisfied Usyk smile: "I can imagine how the Muscovites are burning now," Gres said.
She also added that the delivery of the relic to Saudi Arabia required the efforts of many teams and people. In addition, at some point, according to Yaroslava, she decided that the performance would not take place, as the saber never appeared in the ring after the winner of the rematch between Usyk and Fury was announced.
"How many teams worked to make this project happen? Twelve. And these were the top teams. It may sound funny, but more people were guarding the saber than Usyk himself. How many minutes passed after Oleksandr's victory until the saber appeared in the ring? 9. Nine endlessly long minutes, during which we almost resigned ourselves to the fact that the saber would not be taken out because something had gone wrong. But then we saw the familiar black case. A minute later, we saw a familiar outline on the red velvet. And then the blade, once held in the hand of one of the most prominent Ukrainian warriors, was seen by the whole world. It worked," summarized Gres.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA told about the features of Mazepa's saber and why it irritates Russians so much. As a reminder, all three judges of the Usyk-Fury 2 fight gave the victory to the Ukrainian boxer with a score of 116-112. In addition, it became known what result was recorded by artificial intelligence.
Ex-champion Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) gave his version of the rounds. And the legendary Lennox Lewis admitted that he was not impressed with the fight.
This angered Tyson, who called himself the stronger man by at least three rounds. The Briton also staged a demarche after the fight.
At the same time, impressive statistics of the opponents' punches in the fight were published. A photo showed what Fury's face looked like after 100 missed punches from Usyk.
After the victory, the Ukrainian boxer decided on his next opponent and also made a confession about his rematch with Tyson.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, Paris Fury's reaction was caught on camera when Oleksandr was announced the winner of the rematch with Tyson. In addition, the rematch was found in a famous cartoon.
