The official statement was published on the website of the Hungarian National Skating Association

Hungary is refusing to host the 2024 European Figure Skating and Ice Dance Championships, according to the website of the Hungarian National Skating Association (MOKSZ). The reason given is the "protracted war in the neighbourhood".

The continental championship was to take place from 22 to 28 January next year.

"The impact of the war on the economy and energy prices is having a negative impact on ice skating," the message reads.

After lengthy discussions, the MOKSZ told the International Skating Union (ISU) that it refused to host the European Championships "due to the lack of sufficient financial resources for the quality organisation of the competition".

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, on March 26, a unique jump was performed at the World Figure Skating Championships for the first time in history.

On April 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy imposed sanctions on Russian figure skaters.
